BYU football: Cougars add former o-lineman Dallas Reynolds as grad assistant
Dallas Reynolds suited up for BYU football from 2005-09 and was one of the best linemen of the 2000’s. Now, after a seven year run in the NFL, Reynolds is coming back to Provo.
ESPN 960 producer and BYU football reporter Mitch Harper confirmed the hire on the radio last night.
Reynolds will be an offensive graduate assistant, and joins Harvey Unga, Jan Jorgensen and Vince Feula on the grad assistant staff.
While in Provo, Reynolds started all four seasons and never missed a game. Playing in 50 games, he earned Freshman All-American honors in 2005 and back-to-back All Mountain West First Team honors in 2008 and 2009.
When his BYU football career was over, he signed with Philadelphia Eagles. From 2009-12 he shifted from the 53-man roster to the practice squad regularly.
In 2012 Reynolds replaced an injured Jason Kelce early in the season. He went on to start 14 games that season for the Eagles.
Following that season, Reynolds signed with the New York Giants. Over the next three seasons, he played in 34 games (starting two of them) with the G Men.
While Reynolds didn’t turn a lot of heads with his professional play, you don’t stick around the NFL for seven years unless you’re talented. So not only does Reynolds bring talent back to BYU football, but he brings a ton of knowledge and experience.
He’ll be able to help guys not only perform well on the field, but prepare well for their (potential) professional careers.
There’s a lot to be excited about regarding BYU football’s o-line. The group is talented, experienced and deep. Reynolds can only help that. And he’ll need to. With the offense being pressured to perform at a higher level than last season, the offensive line will need to open holes and keep Tanner Mangum upright.
