No. 3: Akile Davis becomes an electric receiver

Akile Davis is currently listed behind Talon Shumway as the No. 2 wide receiver on BYU football’s depth chart. But by the time November rolls around, I don’t think the depth chart will look the same.

The Cougars have a ton of options at receiver. The downside is the group is largely unknown and unproven. While Micah Simon looks to be legit, and Jonah Trinnaman will be in year two of the offense, and Talon Shumway is a smooth runner with strong hands, no one can be sure how it will play out this season.

But I’m really high on Davis.

I’ve wrote on here before, being a wide receiver is all about athleticism. And that’s what Davis is – an athlete. I’m not saying he’ll lead BYU football in catches, but I believe he’ll develop into a big-play wide out for the Cougars.

The kind of player you can send on a go route or deep post two times a quarter. The kind of player Tanner Mangum would love to sling it to.
