BYU football: Predicting the Cougars’ 2017 MVP
Tanner Mangum, Quarterback
Mangum is the obvious choice for a BYU football MVP. The quarterback is the only offensive player besides the center to touch the ball every snap, so his performance carries more weight than anyone else’s.
Just look at the BYU offense from a season ago. Even with Jamaal Williams carving up opposing defenses, the Cougars sputtered and stalled often due to inconsistent quarterback and wide receiver play.
If Mangum does what I believe he’s capable of doing this season, then he’ll win this by a country mile. But right now, there’s another Cougar in the running for offensive MVP.
Tejan Koroma, Center
Offensive linemen don’t get much love. For most, the offensive line isn’t spoken about until there’s an error.
That probably won’t be the case with Koroma. He’s too good not to discuss.
He’ll anchor an offensive line that will be relied on heavily and is a team captain this season. A starter since 2014, Koroma has 38 career starts under his belt. He’s got a ton of experience to go along with a ton of talent.
I know that the offensive line often needs to be judged as a unit, but there’s no denying Koroma’s importance. He deserves the extra recognition.
