BYU football: The Cougars are (finally) back
BYU football will host Portland State on Saturday. That means that, after long last, the Cougars are back in action. What a time.
It seems like 100 years since we last saw BYU football in a game.
Granted, it feels like that every offseason. Football does that to us. Despite lasting for nearly five months of the year, it always feels like five weeks by the time January rolls around and the games are gone.
Luckily, the NFL sticks around until February. Then college basketball takes over in March. Depending on who you are, maybe the NBA playoffs carry you through spring.
But nothing is quite like football.
Now, we BYU football fans have made it through the offseason. We’ve made predictions, tried to stay realistic (and probably failed) and consumed every tidbit and report we could.
Finally, at long last, the predictions can come to an end. The speculation can die.
And we can finally watch some football.
Next: Three Things To Know For Portland State
The Cougars will host the Portland State Vikings on Saturday. While the game will likely be over by the three-minute mark of the second quarter, it’s still football.
And it pulls us even closer to the game against LSU. For a year BYU football fans have wondered if the Cougars could pull off an upset a la Oklahoma 2009. Depending on who you ask, the Cougars are either a punching bag or a sexy upset pick.
After that, the Holy War returns to Provo – and BYU football can finally break the curse. With any luck, we’ll be three weeks into the year and the Cougars will be poking into the Top 25.
But again, there we go with speculation.
Just sit back, get through the work week, and enjoy Saturday. Tell your loved ones you’ll see them in late January.
Because football is back.
