Kai Nacua

What has happened since the NFL Draft:

Kai Nacua had a great career with BYU football. Despite this, he was not projected by many to be drafted. This year was a great year for safeties in college football (Jamal Adams and Jabrill Peppers to name a few). For that reason, not too many people were shocked when Nacua’s name wasn’t called. After the draft he was picked up by the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent. Since joining the team he has impressed the coaches with his ability to be at the right place at the right time in pass coverage.

Why he will make the team:

Current starting safety Ed Reynolds is out with an injury and could miss up to the first three games of the season. With him out, it is hard to see a situation where Nacua would not get a spot at least as a backup safety. He had two tackles in his NFL preseason debut against the New Orleans Saints. In his second game, he had even a better performance with three tackles as well as a pass deflection. If he can continue to play well, there is a good chance of him making the final roster.
