Taysom Hill

What has happened since the NFL draft:

Whether you loved him or hated him last season, nobody can deny the work ethic of Taysom Hill. Myself and probably every other BYU football fan thought for sure that Hill was going to leave the game of football completely after his injury against Utah State. After all he does have a degree in finance and worked as a research assistant last year.

And yet he is back.

After an extremely impressive BYU football Pro Day, Taysom Hill also did not hear his name heard in the draft. He was picked up by the Green Bay Packers and was for the most part seen as a fourth string/scouting team quarterback. In the NFL, most teams only have two or three quarterbacks on their active roster so the chances of him making the final team seemed as likely as most other undrafted free agents.

Why he will make the team:

It is a little bit too early to say for sure, but at least in his first two preseason games, Hill has played very well. In his first preseason game, Taysom Hill looked as good if not better than the current second string quarterback Brett Hundley. In only one possession, Hill was 4 for 5 passing for 69 yards including a 46 yard bomb and a perfect QB rating of 158.3. He also ran twice for 14 yards. In his second preseason game, Hill once again played very well throwing 6 for 11 passing for 49 yards. He also ran for 38 yards including the game winning touchdown.

If he can continue to play like he did in his first two games, it is hard to see that Taysom Hill will not land a backup or third string quarterback position somewhere in the NFL.
