BYU Cougars: Top 15 fall sports games
By Adam Gibby
Even the biggest BYU Cougars fan can’t make every single sporting event. Knowing the top 15 games can help fans know where to go and when to go.
This fall there are going to be 126 BYU Cougars sporting events – not including postseason games.
That is nearly one sporting event everyday between now and December 31.
Obviously, some games are bigger than others, and so for the sake of helping everyone who loves the BYU Cougars but just can’t make every event, I have made a list of the top 15 games between now and December 31 (There is tie for number four).
The sports included are; women’s soccer, women’s volleyball, football, basketball (men’s and women’s) and cross country.
No. 14 – No. 11
14. BYU vs Utah – Women’s Soccer on September 8: Utah is ranked No. 18 and BYU is No. 17. This game is an instate rivalry. It doesn’t get much more competitive and even than that. The game will be played at South Field in Provo. The only reasons it did not make the top ten are because it is not a conference game and because both schools are not ranked as high as they wish they were. Beating each other doesn’t really affect the other as they are both ranked about the same.
13. BYU vs Georgia – Women’s Basketball on November 25: BYU women’s basketball will have the opportunity to host the Georgia Bulldogs in Provo this year. Georgia was not ranked last year, but any chance to beat a Power Five school is always worth watching. Neither team is projected to do super well this year which keeps this out of the top ten. Also, most of the big games happen after December 31.  I promise a women’s basketball game will make the top ten in the Winter BYU Sports Guide.
12. BYU at UVU – Men’s Basketball on November 29: Last year UVU easily beat the Cougars at the Marriott Center. I’ve never heard of school spirit at UVU, but there may be some when they play the Cougars again this year. If the Cougars win (and they should), then the “rivalry” is buried. If UVU can make it close or beat the Cougars, then BYU basketball is going to have a hard time recruiting in the valley in the near future. This did not make the top ten because I never want UVU to be considered a top ten game. Also, BYU basketball should win by a large margin.
11. BYU at Mississippi State – Football on October 10: This is probably in most people’s top ten, however I could not get myself to put five football games in the top ten. After last year’s double overtime win in Provo, MSU is going to be ready to play the Cougars in their stadium.  The teams seemed pretty even last year, will it be the same this year? Again, this is not in the top ten as to not over saturate the top 10 list.
