No. 2: 2000 – BYU 34, Utah 27

LaVell’s final year as head coach wasn’t stellar, as the 5-6 Cougars headed north to take on the 4-6 Utes. A win would at least get BYU to .500 and send their coach off with a win.

The Cougars took a 26-10 lead into the fourth quarter, but the Utes rattled off three straight scoring drives to take a 27-26 lead.

With a little over two minutes left, Brandon Doman and the offense had one last chance to win it for LaVell. The drive got off to a rocky start, leading to the second most famous fourth down play in the Holy War annals.

With the Cougars facing 4th-and-13, Brandon Doman found Jonathan Pittman for a 34-yard first down. On the next play he hit Pittman again for 36 yards. Two plays later, Doman took it to the house himself to end the LaVell Edwards era with a Holy War win.
