No. 9: 1980 – BYU 56, Utah 6

After starting the 1980 season with a stunning loss to New Mexico, the Cougars ran the table, earning their first 12-win season in program history.

Those 12 wins included a 56-6 drubbing over Utah. It’s the largest margin of victory on either side in the Holy War.

Jim McMahon torched the Ute offense, completing 21 passes for 399 yards and three touchdowns. He also added another touchdown on the ground.

The defense bent, but didn’t break, forcing three turnovers and making a few timely stops to hold the Utes to just one score.
