No. 7: 1989 – BYU 70, Utah 31

70 point outputs are usually reserved for games against lower-level teams. Even then they’re few and far between.

So how did BYU hang 70 in a Holy War game? One word: revenge.

From 1979-1987 the Cougars won nine straight against the Utes, the longest win streak for BYU in the series.

In 1988 the streak snapped in a big way. A 6-5 Utah team ran roughshod over BYU, winning 57-28.

The Cougars turned the tables in 1989. Ty Detmer threw for 358 yards and four touchdowns. Stacey Corley rushed for 159 yards and a score. Fred Whittingham rushed for 37 yards, tacking on three touchdowns of his own.

It was 63-10 after three, then the Utes tacked on three scores in garbage time. The Cougars added a 10th touchdown late as well, capping off the 70-31 demolition.
