No. 6: 2001 – BYU 24, Utah 21

The Cougars entered this Holy War matchup on a magical run. They sat at 10-0 on the year and No. 8 in the nation.

Neither team had problems moving the ball, but both had trouble putting points on the board. The BYU offense only managed a field goal in the first half, but kicked it into gear late.

Down 21-10 in the fourth quarter, Brandon Doman connected with Luke Staley on a seven-yard TD pass. Then with a little more than a minute left, Staley broke off a 30-yard scoring run to take the lead.

Jernaro Gilford picked off Utah quarterback Lance Rice on the Utes’ final drive, sealing the win for the Cougars.

Staley finished the night with 197 total yards on his way to winning the 2001 Doak Walker Award.
