Three things BYU football needs to fix to beat Utah
By Ron Jensen
QB play/passing game
Tanner Mangum needs to gain confidence and find a rhythm. How does that happen? He needs to complete some easy, high-percentage throws.
Which routes create these? It depends on what the defense you’re playing against is doing.
They could be crossing routes over the middle, or out patterns on the sidelines. They might be flair passes to the flats, or hooks ten yards from the quarterback. The point is, they’re out there.
Every defense gives up something, and the Cougar offense simply isn’t finding it. Mangum and Ty Detmer have to crack the combo, or things are not going to get any better.
Correct these mistakes, and BYU football has a great chance to beat the Utes this season. Don’t, and expect the guy in line at the grocery store to be quietly humming Utah Man in your ear for another year.
