BYU football lost its seventh-straight Holy War on Saturday. That loss hurts all of Cougar Nation, but the sting is amplified after seeing some of the social media takes.

Firstly, can’t say I’d blame any of these former BYU football players for sounding off during the game. These guys are still passionate about their school – and that’s a good thing.

Granted, it would’ve been nice if the Cougars could’ve made them proud against Utah during the Holy War, but there’s always next year for that.

For now, let’s review some of the Twitter takes from former Cougars. Hopefully, it can provide a chuckle now that we’re a few days removed from the loss.

Kyle Van Noy, New England Patriots

KVN was an electric player for BYU football during his time in Provo. Last Thursday, he started for the Patriots against Kansas City. So on Saturday night, with no game on Sunday, he was up late watching the Holy War.

Not sure what play he’d seen when he tweeted this, but really it would’ve summed things up for the entire night.

Hahaha, that’s too funny. We laugh too, because if we weren’t laughing we’d be crying. It isn’t what most BYU football fans want, but give Kalani Sitake and Co. a few more years to get their talent into Provo. The wins will come.

Yes sir! BYU certainly does play defense.

Dennis Pitta, former Baltimore Raven

Dennis Pitta – who describes himself of Twitter as a “hip specialist” clearly has a good sense of humor about things. The former Baltimore Raven had to retire this year due to another hip injury, so he too was checking out the Holy War.

Yeah, certainly would’ve been nice. Too bad Pitta didn’t have another year of eligibility left.

Life comes at you fast.

Andrew George, former BYU football tight end

George knows a thing or two about the Holy War. The tight end caught the game-winning score in overtime of the 2009 edition of the Holy War.

Hifo’s error on the pick play looks even worse in hindsight, because it really looked like Shumway was going to be open without the Hifo shoulder-check assist.

Same.

Cody Hoffman, BYU football’s all-time leading receiver

Hoffman caught 260 passes during his time with BYU football. Considering the Cougars had a nasty case of the dropsies on their final drive, it makes sense Hoffman would chime in.

No arguments here. Need to catch the rock.

But still Hoffman has faith.

Make BYU confident and swaggy again.

Alani Fua, Arizona Cardinals

Fua was pumped up to start the game.

Sadly, it didn’t last long.

Just one emoji, but it sums up how every BYU football fan felt.

For now, it’s on to Wisconsin. Surely the sting of another rivalry loss will linger for awhile, but all we can do is look forward to the next week.
