BYU football’s 2016 team is well represented in the NFL, with five different Cougars on active rosters. Pretty impressive stuff from the Cougars.

On Saturday, while BYU football fans were struggling to get through another disappointing loss, Michael Davis signed with the Los Angeles Chargers.

The former Cougar cornerback had been on LA’s practice squad.

Davis was signed after Chargers’ starting cornerback Jason Verrett was ruled out for yesterday’s game against the Miami Dolphins. It’s unknown how long he’ll remain with the team.

Still, it marks an impressive moment for BYU football. Davis signing meant that five players from last season’s team are currently on active NFL rosters.

Not too shabby at all.

Beyond Davis, Jamaal Williams remains with the Packers. Taysom Hill is with the Saints. Kai Nacua is back on Cleveland’s active roster and Harvey Langi made his season debut with Patriots last week.

J-Swag Daddy hasn’t done much with the Packers through two weeks, mainly because Ty Montgomery has been way better than most expected him to be.

Through two games, Williams has taken four carries for 15 yards and has one reception for five yards. He’s still a quality blocker, but Montgomery has played like a man possessed, amassing 203 total yards.

Taysom Hill is the third quarterback on the Saints’ roster, behind future Hall of Famer Drew Brees and career backup Chase Daniel. It’s unlikely that Hill sees a live snap for the Saints this season, but it’s not such a bad idea to learn behind Brees.

Harvey Langi made his 2017 debut last week, helping to replace the injured Dont’a Hightower. He played just six snaps, but made his presence felt on kick coverage, lighting up rookie Alvin Kamara.

Even if the five former BYU football players aren’t getting much run as rookies, it’s still incredible to think that nearly a quarter of the team’s starters a season ago are in the pros.
