BYU football is on a bye this week. Usually, times like bye weeks later in the year, but this is the perfect time for the Cougars to catch a break.

BYU football sits at 1-3 on the season and is now in Tom Fornelli’s Bottom 25 (checking in at No. 17).

Next up for the Cougars is a trip north to Logan, to take on the Utah State Aggies.

At this point, we all know the story. The schedule has been tough, the offense has been bad and we’re all kind of spent as BYU football fans.

It’s tough to stay positive when the Cougars have found the end zone just four times through four games, but all is not lost. The bye week is coming at a perfect time for BYU football.

Here’s why.

Get healthy, get rested

I know we’re only a month into the season, but the Cougars have had one heck of a schedule. Facing three Top 25-caliber teams in as many weeks is no easy task. Especially considering that the BYU defense spent more than 110 minutes on the field over those three games.

It doesn’t look like Tanner Mangum will be healthy for next week’s game, but surely guys are dealing with bumps, bruises, aches and pains. The bye comes at the perfect time to get some much-needed rest.

Plus, the Cougars won’t leave Utah until a day or two before the Mississippi State game on Oct. 6. So there won’t be much demand in terms of travel. Hopefully this let’s guys feel better physically and mentally.
