BYU football travels to SEC country this weekend, squaring off with the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

BYU football is a lowly 1-5 on the season. But you already knew that. You knew it, because just like every other BYU football fan right now, you can’t escape the sinking feeling.

The sixth loss.

Then perhaps more.

Is there hope for the Cougars against the Bulldogs? To be honest, there’s probably not much. At this point, we have no reason to think that anything will change this week.

Besides attitude.

Maybe the Cougars are rallying around this. Maybe the coaching staff is honing in and the players are getting more and more angry. So, maybe, there’s a chance that BYU football rolls into Starksville as a team with nothing to lose and everything to gain (like Troy did to LSU a couple weeks ago).

Will it happen? Who knows. We’ll find out on Saturday.

Here are three things you need to know about the Bulldogs.

Mississippi State rolled LSU

Remember how poorly the LSU game went for BYU football? Have you already blocked it from your memory entirely? If that’s the case, I apologize for drumming up bad memories.

But, for as bad as LSU made BYU look, Mississippi State did the same to the Tigers.

The Bulldogs dismantled LSU 37-7. Using a powerful running attack, Mississippi State held the ball for more than 35 minutes. They racked up 285 rushing yards in the game, averaging 5.9 yards per tote.

Mississippi State also converted on seven of their 13 third down attempts. Really, it was a complete game and an impressive showing.

There’s a chance that the Bulldogs were at their apex for this game against then-No. 12 LSU. Mississippi State certainly hasn’t looked as good in the last two weeks. But still, if you believe in the transitive property, then watch out.
