Wide Receivers Coach Ben Cahoon

If I had to put money on who is most likely to be fired, I’d put it on Cahoon.

For two seasons now, we’re stuck questioning the wide receivers. Last season we were asking if they were getting separation consistently, or if they were suffering from the drops.

This season, we’re questioning if the right players are on the field – which is troubling.

Perhaps the most vocal detractor has been Margin Hooks – a former BYU football wide receiver and currently trainer in Texas. He’s seen plenty of wide receiving talent first hand, and tries to send them to BYU.

Two of his players, Micah Simon and Akile Davis have been used sparingly throughout the season, despite the fact that the rest of the receivers haven’t exactly set the world on fire.

Perhaps the most concerning thing is that we haven’t seen much improvement from the wide receivers since Cahoon was hired. There are obviously a ton of moving parts when building a successful passing attack – but Cahoon was out of football after leaving BYU the first time.

There might have been a reason for it.

Then again, maybe there wasn’t. But if I had to pick a fall guy… it’d be the former CFL great.
