Bulldogs coming off a “humbling loss”

Fresno State fell to UNLV (at home, no less) last week. It was the Bulldogs’ first loss to a non-ranked team this season.

Quarterback Marcus McMaryion told Robert Kuwada of the Fresno Bee that this week’s contest against BYU will be a challenging one.

“I think it’s going to be a test for us,” McMaryion said. “It’s a humbling loss and we can either fold or we can bounce back and come out even stronger.”

The experts are certainly putting money on the whole “come out even stronger” thing.

As it currently stands, Fresno State has an 82 percent chance of beating BYU football, according to ESPN’s Matchup Predictor.

In Vegas, the Bulldogs have opened as a 15.5-point favorite. Last week was BYU’s first win against the spread this season, so the Cougars are now 1-8. Fresno State is 6-1-1 against the spread.

The all-time series between the Cougars and Bulldogs is tied at 5-5. The two schools last met in 2015 in Provo. BYU won that game 52-10, behind Tanner Mangum’s 336 yards.
