BYU football: Fresno State game last chance for upset glory in 2017
BYU football hasn’t had the season they expected. Against Fresno St, they have a final chance to steal some glory.
In 2017, BYU football hasn’t once given us that feeling.
You know the one I’m talking about. That feeling you get when snatching victory out from under a team that by rights should beat you, that pundits and stats crunchers call to win the day. The upset that thumbs it’s nose at Vegas betting lines. That rush of achieving something unexpected and good.
Because by far, most of the unexpected things for Cougars this year have been bad.
Injury, suspension, and poor quarterback play have been only the guests at a surprise party every BYU fan desperately wishes hadn’t been sprung on them.
But here in the 11th hour, the Brigham Young University Cougars are presented with a marvelous chance.
Beat the Bulldogs, and keep the last hopes for a bowl game alive.
Beat the Bulldogs, and claim a little share of that beautiful magic that only sports can provide.
ESPN’s Football Power Index gives the Cougars only an 18 percent chance of victory. Sin City betting lines hover around Fresno State as a two touchdown favorite. And by rights, the Cougars’ only FBS win was against one of the worst in college football. Not much to inspire confidence there.
What more could you ask for?
The Cougars desperately need something, anything to redeem the season. And an upset win here could mean a corner turned, the clouds thrown back, and the road ahead opened to something better.
There could be nothing better now than a win with the odds stacked against them.
Because BYU football can defy those odds, and give every fan that special feeling, even if it’s only for a moment.
