BYU basketball: Jimmer Fredette still going off in China
BYU basketball great Jimmer Fredette is still destroying opponents in China. The Lonely God just went off for 50 points.
Jimmer Fredette – the greatest BYU basketball player of all-time (at least for my money – didn’t have the NBA run Cougar Nation wanted.
However, Fredette is still playing some masterful basketball over in China.
On Tuesday, Jimmer went off for the Shanghai Sharks, dropping 50 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists. He shot 6-for-13 from the field and 10-for-20 from 3-point range, while going 8-for-9 from the free-throw line.
Fredette is now third in the CBA in points per game with 38.6. He trails the leader (Darius Adams) by fewer than four points.
Through five games, Jimmer is shooting 45.3 percent from deep, 43 percent from the field and 90.5 percent from the free-throw line. He’s playing 42.2 minutes per night and certainly seems like he’s well on his way to another MVP-level season.
Also, the former BYU basketball star has a signature shoe that’s getting ready to debut. This week, Jimmer’s brother TJ dropped the release trailer on Facebook. You can check it out below.

It’s always nice to see Jimmer doing well. I can’t help but think he didn’t get a fair shake in the NBA. Sacramento was a horribly dysfunctional organization when he was there. Years later, the Knicks sign him to a 10-day contract, only to not play him.
Surely he’s happy in China, and there were parts of his game he needed to improve to be successful in the NBA – but I hope he gets one more run in the league.
But for now, we’ll keep tabs on the Lonely God from afar as he continues to run through the CBA.
