Cougar Cagers commence convincingly
Mississippi Valley State is no powerhouse, but you can’t ask much more than to perform well with what’s in front of you, and the Delta Devils were the special of the day.
And the Cougars, they did eat.
Showcasing that same efficiency from the field they’ve displayed every game on the young season, BYU basketball ground the Delta Devils down.
Aided by just one miss by Elijah Bryant, who was 10-of-11 from the field, the Cougars blistered Miss Valley State to the tune of a 59 percent field goal percentage. They held MVSU to a mere 36 percent, and that took a jump with a backup-laden lineup for the Cougs checking in for the last 7+ minutes of the game.
Yoeli Childs and TJ Haws also looked solid, but it was the bench play that put a little vinegar in the cups of Cougar fans. Players like Dalton Nixon and Jahshire Hardnett gave hope that BYU basketball will have much less of a drop off when the second unit subs in.
And that’s a luxury last year’s team would have eaten nails for. Now, if they can just manage to stay healthy…
