BYU football: Jamaal Williams may start for Green Bay this week
BYU football’s all-time leading rusher got 20 carries in week 10 against the Chicago Bears. At this point, it looks like he’ll get the start in week 11.
Former BYU football great Jamaal Williams spent his first few months in the NFL on the sidelines. He didn’t have many opportunities, instead watching Ty Montgomery and Aaron Jones take the field.
But it appears that’s about to change for Williams and the Green Bay Packers.
Against the Chicago Bears last week, Green Bay lost Jones with an MCL injury. The rookie from UTEP is expected to miss three to six weeks.
To make things worse for the Packers, Montgomery re-aggravated his injured ribs. There’s no timetable for his return because the injury is a pain-tolerance thing. If Montgomery can take the pain of getting hit, he can play.
But at this point, all signs point to him being extremely limited.
Which means the J-Swag Daddy is the lone healthy running back in Wisconsin. And his head coach was very pleased with his 20 carry, 67 yard performance against the Bears.
Williams ran the way he did in Provo – with power and persistence. Pro Football Focus said he earned the vast majority of his yards after first contact.
While it’s always unfortunate to see a player get injured, it is exciting for BYU football fans to have Williams get more run.
The Packers’ next two games are against Baltimore and Pittsburgh – two of the better defensive units in the NFL. So J-Swag Daddy might not have much running room.
But then again, he only needs a few inches to pick up yardage.
We’ll keep tabs on Montgomery’s ribs throughout the week and update accordingly.
