BYU football returns to Provo, looking to make it two wins in a row. Here’s what to know for the Cougars’ matchup with the UMass Minutemen.

BYU football is coming off an impressive win over UNLV. After seemingly finding their quarterback (Joe Critchlow, the Ginger Gunslinger), the Cougars have new life. Can they keep it rolling against UMass?

While on paper it seems like an easy win for BYU, UMass has played both Tennessee and Mississippi State tough. So the Minutemen can certainly get up for games. When you’re 3-8 like the Cougars, no game is an easy one.

Here are three things to know for the matchup of FBS Independent teams.

Let’s Go Streaking

UMass has played some pretty good football over the last four weeks. The Minutemen have won three of their last four games. The lone loss was an 11-point defeat on the road against Mississippi State.

But, it is worth noting that the three wins all came at home. Coming into LaVell Edwards Stadium and walking out with a win isn’t a particularly easy task – especially for lower level teams.

Also, you can’t deny the Minutemen are much improved over last season. Sure, a 3-7 record doesn’t jump off the page, but UMass has been in every game this season.

Their seven losses have come by a combined 53 points. The most lopsided was the aforementioned loss to Mississippi State. Every other loss has been by 10 points or less.
