No vacation for the Cougars

If you believe what the players and coaches are saying, this game in Hawaii will be no vacation.

Despite the fact that the team will be there for five days or so, will celebrate Thanksgiving there and has no bowl game destination, everyone is staying on message: This is a work trip to Hawaii, not a time to enjoy the beach and relax.

“I know people want to believe that we should treat this as a bowl game, relax and have fun – but it’s quite the opposite,” Corbin Kaufusi told Jared Lloyd of the Daily Herald. “This is a legitimate thing. It’s one that will help us decide how we change the offseason.”

Kaufusi is absolute right. When you’re sitting at 3-9, you don’t get to relax.

But what piqued my interest was his comment about the offseason. I know that there’s a 99.99 percent chance that was just a generic talking point/referring to the mental state of the players. But the .01 percent chance he’s talking about something… more.

Coaching changes, culture changes… I don’t know. Again, the odds of that are slim to none – but maybe there’s a chance the players see some writing on the wall. Purely speculation, but interesting nonetheless.
