BYU football’s 2017 season comes to end on Saturday in Hawaii. There’s little left to play for, but there are some positive things the Cougars can do on the island.

BYU football head coach Kalani Sitake made it abundantly clear that this week’s trip to Hawaii isn’t a pleasure excursion. The Cougars are looking to close out their season with a victory over the Rainbow Warriors.

So if this is strictly business, what can BYU football expect to gain from this outing?

As always, it depends on the outcome. A win changes things mentally for a team that’s been taking to the woodshed a number of times. A loss adds to the questions and despair.

Here are three things the Cougars can accomplish:

No. 1: Create a highlight reel for fans

No amount of highlights will rectify the abysmal season that 2017 was. Yet, a game filled with touchdown passes, long runs, sacks and interceptions can certainly ease the pain a little.

Fans and media members will watch the season finale more times than any other game. It will give them clues for what to expect next season. It would be a gift to all to have something fun to watch.

Fans desire footage they can repeatedly watch and examine returners for next season. This needs to be a game where they show their ability and potential to contribute.

Besides, there is nothing like game filled with big plays to get you through the cold winter months until spring ball.
