BYU football promotes a current coach to offensive coordinator

As mentioned before, no offensive coach performed very well to the point of earning a promotion to offensive coordinator. So this seems like a long shot.

However if it were to happen, I do believe that it would either be Steve Clark, Ed Lamb or Mike Empey.

Steve Clark – Clark is currently the tight ends coach for the Cougars. His resume however does have the most credentials for the offensive coordinator job. Clark was the offensive coordinator for both Weber State and Southern Utah before coming to BYU. Both teams had success offensively while he was working there. Also, if there was bright spot on the offense, I would have to lean towards the tight ends.

Ed Lamb – A bit of a stretch, considering Ed Lamb has never coached offense in his career. But he was the head coach of SUU which gives him a lot experience with offense. In fact, he was a defensive coach for San Diego and Idaho before becoming the head coach for SUU. The reason why he is second on this list? One, because nobody else really deserves it, and two, because Ed Lamb is a great coach. He has helped Coach Sitake in a lot of ways during his first two seasons so I believe he could possibly find success in leading the offense.

Mike Empey – The offensive line was not very good this year. There were moments during Hawaii and UNLV games when the offensive line looked great. However, for the most part, the O-line did not make Empey look very good as a coach. The reason he is third on this list is because he was the Head Coach at Snow College. Outside of that experience, there is not much more making me believe he would be credible for the offensive coordinator job.

So who do you think it will be? Was it smart for BYU football to let Ty Detmer go? Did I miss someone? Let us know in the comments!
