No. 3: – It opens a pipeline

During the 1980’s and 1990’s, BYU football had an incredible junior college pipeline. It came in the form of national powerhouse Ricks College.

It supplied an abundance of players that became stars for the Cougars. Pro-Bowler Jason Buck, Miami Dolphins’ John Denney, speedster Justin Anderson and former NFL player Spencer Nead all came to BYU by way of Rexburg.

After Ricks College cut its sports programs in 2002, that feeder died. Many thought Snow College would replace it. Although some big recruits have come to BYU from Ephraim, that pipeline never really materialized.

That changes with the arrival of Paul Peterson. His players love him there, and the likelihood of them wanting to follow him to BYU is high.

For at least the next two to three seasons, this will be an invaluable asset.  Over time, it should provide an edge that BYU football has been desperately seeking since 2002.

These three reasons push Paul Peterson to the top of my candidate list.  Where is he on Sitake’s list? We shall see.
