Former BYU basketball guard Nick Emery has released a blog, touching on his decision to withdraw from school and his divorce.

BYU basketball lost Nick Emery just before the season began, as the junior guard withdrew from the university citing personal reasons.

He was also the subject of an NCAA investigation regarding a potential relationship with a BYU booster.

Now, Emery has released a blog post detailing bits of his departure and promising a return to BYU basketball.

The blog, which was published on TheOutLive.com and is entitled “Outlive The Tendency” doesn’t have a byline attached to it. However, Emery took to social media to share it and The Deseret News confirmed that Emery did, indeed, write the piece.

It can be viewed in full here.

Emery never got into specifics, but he did accuse many of circulating false information about him. He also mentioned that he withdrew from BYU due to concerns about safety.

But he also mentioned something that will likely pique the interest of BYU basketball fans.

He’s planning a return.

“I will be back Cougar Nation!” Emery wrote. “I am a Cougar and always will be!”

Obviously, it’s good to see Emery is doing well. Or, at the very least, better than he was a month or so ago. So often we forget that these players are still kids trying to navigate through life – we treat them as machines. Pieces to a puzzle.

So while it was no fun to lose Emery for the season, the most important thing is his well-being. Hopefully he continues to find peace.

But he’ll still be watching the Cougars.

“For now, cheer on our boys!” Emery said in the blog. “I am so proud of each one of them and they will continue to have a great season.”
