Just a few days after BYU football got a commitment from quarterback Stacy Conner, the Cougars got three-star athlete Larenz Redd.

BYU football isn’t going bowling, but the recruiting machine is still rolling along. And the Cougars just got a major addition to their 2019 recruiting class.

Larenz Redd, a three-star athlete from Sierra High School (CA), is the newest member of the BYU football family.

Redd committed to the program just a handful of weeks after his junior season ended. He told 247Sports the following:

“I feel like the opportunities (BYU) provides outside of football will put me in the best position to succeed in life.”

Redd said that he’s been recruited as an athlete and that the coaching staff told him they’re looking at him to potentially fill multiple roles.

But watching his film, he looks like a legit cornerback prospect.

He’s got great footwork, works his hips well and shows real explosiveness when breaking on the football. Redd also demonstrates great instincts, which may be a result of him also playing running back at Sierra High School.

While it doesn’t seem very likely that Redd plays running back in Provo, he does look incredibly smooth. Watching his film there were plenty of plays where it looks like defenders have a good angle on him, only for him to glide past them.

Redd announced his commitment to BYU football via Twitter. You can check out the video below.

While fans anxiously await the announcement of the Cougars’ new offensive coordinator, it’s nice to get some recruiting news. So many are sour on the horrendous season that was 2017, but don’t forget that Kalani Sitake is a great recruiter. He’s already shown he can bring players to BYU that usually wouldn’t consider the Cougars.

We’ll keep tabs on Redd throughout his senior season.
