Tight Ends Coach: Steve Clark

Steve Clark came to BYU football after Kalani Sitake’s hire, leaving his role as Weber State offensive coordinator. Clark is a talented football mind who coached Matt Bushman to an appearance on USA Today Sports’ All-America team. Clark also has some experience as a play caller. Grimes also worked with Clark at BYU in 2004.

Prediction: Stays

Clark did a pretty good job this year with the tight ends – and he did it without projected starter Moroni Laulu-Pututau. It’s tough to imagine he’d lose his job after a performance like that. Anything is possible – and there’s a chance Grimes already has a guy in mind – but I think Clark will remain with the Cougars.

Offensive Line Coach: Mike Empey

According to a number of reports, Grimes and Empey have remained close ever since the two worked together in Provo in 2004. Empey was hired by Kalani Sitake and transformed the offensive line from slim, go-fast-go-hard pass blockers to big, nasty bruisers. The offensive line has been pretty solid in both seasons under Empey, too.

Prediction: Stays

Empey is good friend of Grimes and I think Grimes will be focused on putting together an offense. Not that he won’t occasionally help out with the big uglies – after all, he’s a great technician – but he’ll have other things to focus on. Empey stays.
