BYU football had two members of its 2018 signing class decommit in as many days. Is the sky falling in on the Cougars?

BYU football’s terrible 2017 season isn’t over yet. But, when you go 4-9, things don’t end quietly. Now, recruits are wondering if being in Provo is something they want.

Unfortunately for BYU football, a number of those players are deciding to take their talents elsewhere.

Brandon Kaho, a four-star linebacker and big-fish of the Cougars’ upcoming class decommitted over the weekend. Kaho ended up verbally committing to the Washington Huskies. So don’t worry, BYU football fans. You’ll still see him in 2018.

It will just be on September 29, when the Cougars take on the Huskies in Seattle.

The second player to decommit was two-star running back Josh Oglesby.

Oglesby, a speedster out of Katy, Texas, hasn’t committed to another program yet – but currently his only other offer is from Montana State. However, it has led to a lot of speculation that current running backs coach Reno Mahe might be on the way out.

Mahe had been recruiting Oglesby since 2015. But with BYU football’s new offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes on the scene, it wouldn’t be surprising for Mahe to leave the staff.

So what does it mean moving forward?

Well, it’s obviously never fun to lose a commit. But, like we always say, the bottom line is that these kids go where they feel they have the best chance at success. Hopefully Grimes can get to work, get his staff in place and maybe flip a LSU commit.

Speaking of which, the Tigers did lose five-star offensive lineman Kenyon Green. The odds of him following Grimes to BYU football are slim. But we can hope, right?
