BYU football: Cougars flip three-star QB Wilson from Boise State
BYU football flipped three-star quarterback Zachary Wilson from Boise State on Thursday night. Wilson may make an immediate impact for the Cougars.
BYU football just bolstered its 2018 signing class with the addition of three-star quarterback Zachary Wilson.
Wilson, who was originally committed to Boise State, announced his commitment to the Cougars on Thursday night.
The signal caller turned down Cal, Oregon State and the Broncos to sign with BYU football. Undoubtedly a big reason for that was the Cougars lackluster quarterback situation. Wilson is LDS, but currently has no plan for a mission – so he’ll come to Provo and compete right off the bat.
Wilson played quarterback at Corner Canyon High School (UT) and completed 57 percent of his passes for 2,986 yards and 24 touchdowns.
There’s a lot to like about this signing for BYU football. Obviously getting a kid with multiple P5 offers is always a plus. While the Cougars have a ton of quarterbacks on the roster, they aren’t in a position to turn guys away.
They need to get everyone in and find their guy. Tanner Mangum, Beau Hoge, Joe Critchlow, Kody Wilstead and Stacy Conner don’t provide many answers. There’s no guarantee that Wilson will undoubtedly change the dynamic of BYU football’s offense – but he certainly can’t hurt.
He may very well find himself the starting quarterback next season. It will be an uphill battle for him, but the opportunity to play early likely factored into his decision.
We’ll continue to provide recruiting coverage leading up to Signing Day in February.
