BYU football’s 2017 season was nothing short of embarrassing. Now, in 2018, the Cougars have a lot of changes to make in order to return to form.

BYU football has a lot to fix. Thankfully, the hiring of Jeff Grimes will fix some of those problems. But a tough schedule and a recruiting class that featured a lot of the top talent flipping has fans breaking out the paper bags.

Still, with a new year, one can’t hope but to be optimistic. Things surely can’t get much worse… right?

If BYU football sticks to these three resolutions, fans will forget about 2017.

No. 1: Become a more disciplined program

BYU football’s problems on the field last season are directly linked to the locker room. Kalani Sitake is a players’ coach and in some ways things may have gotten out of hand. Fans have complained that the inmates may be running the asylum.

However, Sitake has been making changes to ensure that things get under control. His personality is changing, there are policy changes. Plus, the hiring of Jeff Grimes (a coach known for being a strict, yet player-loving guy) helps as well.

People forget that this is Sitake’s first go-round as a head coach. He’s still learning the intricacies of management. As a defensive coordinator, he always had a head coach to rely on. Now, he’s the man at the top of the mountain. It’s up to him to make the tough decisions.

He knows that and is already addressing the issues. If he keeps it up, BYU football will improve.
