BYU football: Three longshot prospects to watch for Signing Day
BYU football is still in the running for some talented high school players. Here are three longshot names to keep an eye on leading up to Signing Day in February.
A new year means a fresh start for BYU football. After a 2017 that is best to be forgotten, the Cougars are looking to get back on track with a new offensive coaching staff.
But while the staff will help improve things, BYU football also needs to get some recruits.
With just a month until Signing Day, it’s all hands on deck for the Cougars. Everyone on the staff is on the recruiting trail, hoping to find the crown jewel of the 2018 signing class.
These names are all longshots to join the Cougars. But they’re all players that are still linked to the program in some way. And if any of these three players were to come to Provo, it would be a massive get for the program and for a stressed-out fanbase.
Merlin Robertson, 4-Star OLB
It was thought that BYU football had moved away from Robertson, but after Brandon Kaho decommitted from the Cougars, things are heating back up.
That’s not to say Robertson is a lock to end up in Provo, but there’s a need on the roster, a scholarship available and mutual interest.
Odds are that Robertson ends up at Oklahoma, but the hard-hitting and explosive linebacker would be a huge get for the Cougars.
Looking at his film, it’s clear that Robertson has the potential to be a game-changing linebacker. A sure tackler, Robertson has a knack for stuffing the hole, getting off blocks and making plays.
