BYU basketball: Girard breaks a Jimmer Fredette record
BYU basketball already got one star from Glens Falls High School (NY). Can the Cougars get a second, and the school’s new all-time leading scorer?
Jimmer Fredette scores in bunches. He did it at Glens Falls High School (NY), he did it with BYU basketball and he’s currently doing it in China.
Dude just gets buckets.
But now there’s a new sheriff at Glens Falls.
That man is Joseph Girard III – a current BYU basketball recruit and the new all-time leading scorer at Glens Falls.
Girard broke the record just before Christmas in a game against Scotia High School. Girard scored 46 points in the win – a Jimmer-like performance for sure. At that point, Girard had scored 2,449 career points. He’s just a junior, so he’s got plenty of time to add to that total.
According to 247Sports, Girard currently holds offers from the following schools:
Albany, Boston College, BYU, George Washington, High Point, UMass, Middle Tennessee, Penn State, Saint Joseph’s, Saint Louis, Siena, Tulane, Vermont and Washington.
Surely, the high-volume scorer will get more offers by the time he’s getting ready to graduate.
So, what did Jimmer think of his record being broken? As expected, he took in stride.
At this point, there’s no way of telling which school is Girard’s No. 1. However, there’s no denying that it wouldn’t be an awesome story to see two guards from Glens Falls come to BYU basketball and make an impact.
Then again, that very framework might not be appealing to Girard. He might want to carve out his own legacy – far away from the one Jimmer had. Plus, there would be constant comparisons by fans.
Either way, we’ll stay plugged into BYU basketball’s recruiting.
