For the second-consecutive year, BYU basketball’s Jimmer Fredette will be competing in the Chinese Basketball Association All-Star Game.

Jimmermania hasn’t been alive in the United States since Jimmer Fredette left BYU basketball. But in China, it’s bigger and better than ever.

Jimmer’s released his own signature shoe, he’s won the Chinese Basketball Association MVP and he’ll now be competing in the CBA All-Star Game for the second-straight year.

The CBA made the announcement on Tuesday, just a few hours before Jimmer dropped 50 points (for the seventh time this season) on Xinjiang.

Stats sometimes get skewed overseas. Aging former NBA stars usually tear the league apart. But, you can’t discredit what Jimmer is doing over there. While the Sharks haven’t been quite what they were last year, Fredette is every bit the player he was a season ago.

Currently, the 28-year-old,  6-foot-2 former Cougar is averaging 37.7 points per game, 6.9 rebounds per game and 4.9 assists per game. He’s shooting 45 percent from the field, 43 percent from 3-point range and 96 percent from the free-throw line.

His 37.7 points are second-best in the league. As are his 41.3 minutes per night.

Certainly deserving of an All-Star Game appearance.

Obviously, it’s great to see Jimmer still doing well. While it’s disappointing that BYU basketball’s most famous alum couldn’t make it in the NBA, there’s no denying his stardom overseas.

Maybe his shining moment is yet to come. Never say never, right?

As it stands, Fredette and the Sharks are 12-14. The team has 12 games remaining in the regular season.

The CBA All-Star Game will be played on Sunday and we’ll continue to keep tabs on all things Jimmer as the year progresses.
