BYU football: Cougars’ 2019 football schedule finalized
BYU football will be hosting some of the nation’s biggest programs in 2019. Here’s a look at the full, finalized schedule for the Cougars.
At this point, everyone is awaiting BYU football’s 2018 season. Cougar Nation is nervously hoping for a rebound season after a dismal 4-0 campaign a year ago.
But now we also know the Cougars’ 2019 schedule in full.
Here’s a look at BYU football’s slate.
vs Utah – August 29
at Tennessee – September 7
vs USC – September 14
vs Washington – September 21
at Toledo – September 28
at USF – October 12
vs Boise State – October 19
at Utah State – November 2
vs Liberty – November 9
vs Idaho State – November 16
at UMass – November 23
at San Diego State – November 30
Hawaii Bowl – December 24
The first thing that pops is the caliber of teams that are coming to LaVell Edwards Stadium. Hosting the likes of Utah, USC, Washington and Boise State makes for a nice home slate. It will be difficult to win those games, but if 2016 taught us anything, it’s that competitive losses are fairly easy to swallow.
Obviously, at this point, it’s too early to make any real predictions. There’s no telling what each of these teams will look like come 2019. However, we can look at the travel.
Once again, BYU football will be racking up the frequent flier miles. Trips to Tennessee, Ohio, Florida and Massachusetts will be taxing. But six home games and short trips to Utah State and San Diego State will be nice.
Also, it’s nice to see that the home and away splits look pretty even. There are no real prolonged road swings or home stands. Plus – for BYU football fans in Utah – it’s nice to know that the big-name schools will all be in town before things get too cold or snowy.
Hopefully, by then, the Cougars will be back to their winning ways. Turning some heads in 2019 could go a long way in securing a P5 invite shortly thereafter.
