Zack Wilson, Quarterback

Fans and analysts are clamoring that the quarterback competition is wide open. Its been reported that as many as eight are competing for the job. I, on the other hand, think that this is a two-horse race.

For me, it’s between Tanner Mangum and the winner of the spring practice sessions. The true competition will take place this fall, when Mangum is healthy.

My prediction to win the spring? None other than true freshman Zack Wilson. Jeff Grimes, the new offensive coordinator, specifically chose Wilson with his new offense in mind. He’s here to give Tanner a run for his money.

Wilson is a 247 Sports 3-star prospect from Corner Canyon (Draper). The 6’3 200-pound recruit graduated early from high school to compete for the position this spring.

This past season he threw for 2,976 yards with 24 touchdown passes. He completed 57% of his throws. The dual-threat QB also ran for 719 yards and scored 8 touchdowns on the ground.

Wilson is a special talent and BYU football was lucky to get him despite being so late in the game with their attempt. At the least, I see Wilson winning the second-string spot this coming season.

No question these individuals will impact the BYU football program. Will it be enough to turn around the dismal 2017 season results? That’s another question, but clearly, players like these won’t hurt.
