No. 2 seed UCLA swept No. 7 seed Stanford in Los Angeles to punch their ticket to Provo. No. 4 seed Concordia also won their match in three sets, taking down No. 5 seed Grand Canyon in Irvine, CA.
The upset of the first round came in Malibu, CA, where No. 6 seed USC knocked off No. 3 seed Pepperdine in four sets. The unranked Trojans will move on to face BYU, the host and top seed in the tournament.
The Cougars earned the right to host the semifinals and finals by winning the MPSF regular-season title. BYU went 10-2 in conference play, one game better than second-place UCLA.
All four remaining teams will converge in the Smith Fieldhouse on Thursday, April 19. Game one will feature the Bruins and the Eagles, followed by the Cougars and the Trojans.
The winners of those two will face each other two nights later with an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament on the line.
The Cougars have made the most out of their opportunities to host in the MPSF tournament, winning their last eight home matches in the tournament and eleven out of their last twelve.
