BYU Women’s Golf wins WCC, Huang takes individual title

It’s a third straight WCC Championship for BYU Women’s Golf, including an individual title for Rose Huang.
BYU Women’s Golf got their threepeat.
The Cougar golfers won their third straight WCC Championship, beating Pepperdine in a playoff to clinching a spot in the NCAA Regionals.
BYU finished 36-over par in the three-round tournament. Their 7-over final round was the best score posted by any team in any round.

This year’s tournament took place at the Carlton Oaks Golf Club in Santee, CA.
Pepperdine led after both the first and second days, with the Cougars sitting in second after each round. BYU made up five strokes in the final round to force the playoff, then won on the first extra hole by one stroke.
BYU junior Rose Huang led the Cougars and captured the individual title, shooting 2-under for the tournament. She was the only golfer to shoot under par.
Three BYU golfers finished in the Top-10 individually. Senior Kendra Dalton tied for second, shooting 5-over, while freshman Naomi Soifua tied for eighth, shooting 13-over.
The Cougars, ranked 40th in the country, will head to the NCAA Regionals May 7-9. With a strong showing there, they can qualify for their third straight trip to the NCAA Championships. This year the championships will be May 17-23 in Stillwater, OK.
BYU Men’s Golf finishes third in WCC
While the women took the title, the BYU men finished in a tie for third in their WCC Championship. The Cougars finished 2-over par, tied with Santa Clara.
Pepperdine ran away with the men’s title, shooting 26-under and winning by a WCC-record 25 strokes over second-place St. Mary’s.
Two Cougars finished in the Top-10 individually. Sophomore Rhett Rasmussen tied for 3rd at 5-under par, while senior Patrick Fishburn finished in a tie for 9th a 1-under.
The BYU men are also ranked 40th in the nation, but they’ll have to wait to see if they’re invited to the NCAA Regionals.
