BYU Football: Jon Swift hired as new Director of Football Operations
By Shaun Gordon
BYU Football named Jon Swift as their new Director of Football Operations. He’s a proven administrator with Cougar ties who should fit in seamlessly.
BYU Football has a new administrator.
The Cougars hired Jon Swift as the new Director of Football Operations, taking over for Russell Tialavea.
The Director of Football Operations is different from other football jobs. Swift is tasked with handling the administrative side of the team. As listed on Swift’s bio for byucougars.com, the responsibilities of the position are “overseeing the daily operations of the football department, managing the active roster, and serving as the liaison with student life and admissions.”
Swift will juggle the things that make the football program run behind the scenes while Kalani Sitake and his staff run the team.
Swift is no stranger to BYU. He worked with the football team from 2006-11 as a student manager. During those five years, he learned all aspects program, working both with the coaching staff and administration.
He’s no stranger to management and administration either. He’s spent the last four years working for DealerSocket, a software company that integrates sales and service for auto dealers nationwide. He spent most of that time as a manager. He handled both overall vision and strategy as well as day-to-day administration and organization.
Both his experience at BYU and his time with DealerSocket should give him the skills and ability to handle his new position successfully, and that’s a big deal for a football program.
The more responsibility that Swift handles, the less that’s the shoulders of Sitake and the coaching staff.
That’s more time that the coaches can use to put a winning football team on the field in the fall.
