BYU Basketball: Elijah Bryant working out for the Utah Jazz
By Shaun Gordon
Former BYU Basketball star Elijah Bryant is chasing his dream of playing professionally, and his first step is a workout for the nearest NBA franchise.
After the announcement that he’d turn pro, Elijah Bryant is taking the next step in fulfilling his NBA dreams.
Bryant will work out with the Utah Jazz today, joining five other prospects hoping to prove they’re NBA worthy and ready:

The Jazz haven’t wasted any time in turning their attention to the draft. After Tuesday’s eliminating loss to the Houston Rockets in the 2nd round of the NBA Playoffs, they’re focused on moving forward, and the next step is the NBA Draft.
Bryant joins five other players in the workout for the Jazz:
- South Carolina wing Brian Bowen
- Villanova guard Donte DiVincenzo
- Kentucky forward Wenyen Gabriel
- San Diego State forward Jalen McDaniels
- Virginia guard Devon Hall
There’s no telling how many workouts Bryant will get with NBA teams. According to his own Twitter, though, it looks like he has at least one other workout either completed or scheduled:
Right now, Bryant isn’t on anyone’s draft radar. Without an invite to the NBA Draft Combine, he’ll have to prove himself in workouts like this. All it takes, though, is one team to like what they see and take a flyer on him.
Each NBA team usually works out nearly 100 players, so he’ll have to do a lot to make an impression. While it’s possible Bryant could be drafted, he’ll likely have to go the route of former Cougar Kyle Collinsworth.
As the only former BYU player currently in the NBA, Collinsworth got there through the NBA G-League. He impressed the Dallas Mavericks’ front office enough to sign with their G-League team, the Texas Legends, then worked his way to the Mavericks after 2+ years of showing what he could do.
Bryant’s path is nowhere near set yet, but he’s begun the process of fulfilling his dream.
