One of the top quarterback recruits for 2019 just committed to play for BYU Football. Jacob Conover will anchor the Cougars’ next recruiting class.
BYU Football just secured the cornerstone of their 2019 recruiting class.
On Sunday evening, 4-Star quarterback Jacob Conover announced his commitment to BYU:

The 6’1, 185 lb. quarterback out of Chandler High School in Chandler, Arizona is one of the top recruits in the nation. Every national scouting service places Conover is one of the Top 15 passers in the country, and ESPN has him as the fourth best pocket passer nationwide.

To get an idea of how big of a recruit he is, take a look at his list of scholarship offers:
- Alabama
- Arizona
- Arizona State
- BYU
- Memphis
- Mississippi
- Nevada
- Northwestern
- Oregon State
- South Carolina
- Utah State
- Washington State
Toward the end of his recruiting, he’d whittled down his decision to two schools: Arizona State and BYU.
It’s no wonder that he’s caught the attention of some of the biggest schools in the country. As a junior at Chandler High School, Conover passed for 3,077 yards and 32 touchdowns, and added two touchdowns on the ground. His most startling stat is interceptions: he only threw two for the entire season.
Chandler High School may sound familiar to Cougar fans. That’s because one of BYU’s top 2018 recruits, wide receiver Gunner Romney, also played for Chandler. Romney accounted for 1,554 yards and 18 touchdowns, easily establishing himself as Conover’s go-to target.
Now they’ll reunite in Cougar Blue.
Future Looking Bright
Conover is the Cougars’ second 4-Star recruit of the 2019 class, joining Orem High School defensive lineman Chuck Alatini. These two recruits, along with another five committed 3-Star recruits, are forming the beginning of a very strong class for BYU.
As of now, Conover is expected to serve an LDS mission before enrolling at BYU, which hopefully secures the quarterback position for the Cougars over the next several years. He’ll be in position to take the reins of the offense as the current crop of quarterbacks reach the end of their eligibility.
Overall, this is one of the biggest recruiting wins for BYU in quite some time.
Plus, any time you beat out Alabama for a recruit, there’s cause to celebrate.
