BYU Women’s Golf: Rose Huang tees off at NCAA Championships
By Shaun Gordon
BYU Women’s Golf’s Rose Huang tees off today in the NCAA Championships, but she’ll be golfing a little out-of-order due to Sunday play.
Rose Huang will be golfing a little differently than everyone else at the NCAA Championships.
For every golfer but Huang, today’s round will be practice, a chance to get a feel for the course. For Huang, though, today’s round counts.
She’ll golf her third round of the championships today, before golfing her first round tomorrow and her second round on Saturday. She’ll finish up her fourth and final round on Monday.
Yes, you read that right. Because every other golfer will play their third round on Sunday, Huang’s round today will take the place of that.
That’s one of the joys of accommodating BYU’s Sunday play policy.
Huang won’t be at a disadvantage when it comes to practice, though, since she was able to complete her practice round on Wednesday. She’ll get the same amount of golf in as everybody else, just on slightly different days and in a slightly different order.
Both this year’s NCAA Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships are hosted by Oklahoma State. They’ll take place at the Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The women’s championship will run through next Tuesday, and the men will begin theirs next Wednesday.
Even though BYU Women’s Golf didn’t qualify as a team, Huang qualified individually as one of the three best individual golfers who weren’t part of a team that advanced. She shot four-under par through her three rounds in last week’s Austin Regional.
Huang will look to represent the Cougars well at the championships, and she’ll also be able to give the men some pointers. The BYU Men’s Golf team qualified on the men’s side after a stellar second-place showing in the Norman Regional this week.
