Last season was one of the weakest recruiting classes BYU Football has had in decades. This year, though, they’ve got the makings of a much stronger class.

The 2019 National Signing Day for college football is still nine months away. Hundreds of high school players have yet to commit, and plenty who have committed will change their mind between now and next February.

BYU Football’s recruiting class will likely be larger than it is right now, with more commitments rolling in as signing day gets closer. With the recent commitment from Jacob Conover, the Cougars now have seven commitments for the 2019 class.

Will all seven current commitments hold? Who else will BYU add between now and next February?

Nobody knows.

But taking the 2019 commitments as they stand right now, the Cougars are on the verge of having a very strong recruiting class.

Don’t just take my word for it. Ask 247 Sports. They’ve got the current BYU class ranked No. 29 in the nation. Scout ranks them No. 31, and Rivals has them at No. 34.

Compare that to 2018. Those three services had the Cougars at No. 77, No. 78, and No. 94 respectively.

Saying that’s a big jump is a big understatement.

Don’t expect to see the Cougars ranked as high as they are right now after signing day. There’s a lot of big name players that will commit to power conference schools, and BYU will drop. But barring something catastrophic, they won’t drop back down into the 70’s or 90’s.

The Cougars traditionally find themselves ranked anywhere in the 50’s or 60’s. They’ve finished higher a few years, and lower some years, but that’s the baseline that BYU has established. With the strong commitment core they’ve already got, it’s a very real possibility they could finish higher in 2019 than they traditionally do.

But that will depend on what happens between here and February.

Let’s look first at who the Cougars already have commitments from.
