BYU Football: Jonah Trinnaman signs with the New York Jets
By Shaun Gordon
Former BYU Football wideout Jonah Trinnaman has signed with the New York Jets, less than a week after being cut by the Arizona Cardinals.
A former BYU speedster has signed with the NFL team named for speed.
Earlier today, NFL Agent Evan Brennan tweeted out the news that former Cougar Jonah Trinnaman has signed with the New York Jets:
This comes less than a week after Trinnaman was cut by Arizona. The Cardinals signed him on April 28, but three weeks later Jonah found himself back on the open market.
The Jets weren’t the only team openly looking into Trinnaman. The Green Bay Packers showed interest in bringing him to Wisconsin as a cornerback.
There’s no word yet on what position he’ll play for the Jets, nor on what the terms of his contract are, but the key is that he’s received another chance to make an opening-day roster.
Trinnaman turned heads at BYU’s Pro-Day, running the 40-yard dash in 4.29 seconds. Had he participated in the NFL Scouting Combine, his time would have been the fastest.
Jonah started his college career at Snow College. He was the Badgers’ second-leading receiver as a freshman, and followed that up with a monster sophomore campaign, becoming Snow’s go-to wideout.
He transferred to BYU for his final two college seasons. In his junior and senior years combined, Trinnaman had 543 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Those aren’t numbers that catch the attention of NFL teams. He needed to have a good Pro Day showing to raise his professional stock, and he dazzled. When you can run as fast as Trinnaman proved he can, the opportunities to make an NFL roster become available.
An availability just presented itself with the Jets, now it’s up to Trinnaman to make the most of it.
