By Shaun Gordon
Rose Huang finished the NCAA Championships in a tie for 21st, a second straight Top 25 individual finish for a Cougar golfer.
Rose Huang represented BYU Women’s Golf remarkably well at the NCAA Championships over the last five days, and earned herself a Top 25 individual finish.
Huang shot one-over par in her final round on Monday, bringing her final 72-hole total to four-over, good for a 21st-place tie.
This is the second straight year that a Cougar golfer has recorded a Top 25 finish individually. Last year, BYU’s Alexandra White finished in a tie for 14th place.
132 golfers competed in the tournament, and 84 made the final-round cut going into Monday.
Huang qualified for the NCAA Championships individually, even though the Cougars failed to qualify as a team. Among the 16 golfers who represented their schools individually, Huang finished sixth.
One of those sixteen, Jennifer Kupcho of Wake Forest, won the individual title. She shot one-under par on Monday finish with the two-stroke win at eight-under.
Andrea Lee of Stanford came on strong in the final round, shooting seven-under in the last day to finish in a tie for second.
The NCAA Women’s Championships aren’t complete yet. Eight of the fifteen teams are still alive in the hunt for the team championship. There’s two more days of golf remaining for those eight teams to decide the winner.
Both the men’s and women’s championships are held this year at the Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The men’s tournament starts on Friday, with the exception of one team.
BYU Men’s Golf will compete in the men’s championships, and they’ll play their third round on Thursday. It’ll take place of their Sunday score, when all the other teams will compete in their third round.
Huang just experienced the same course and same schedule, and she finished quite well.
Looks like the men should take some notes.
