BYU Softball: Sugg earns All-American Honors
By Shaun Gordon
BYU Softball’s Libby Sugg has been awarded 3rd Team All-American honors, adding to a growing list of accomplishments by the Cougar leader.
The accolades keep rolling in for Libby Sugg.
The BYU Softball junior earned NFCA 3rd Team All-American honors as one of the 54 best softball players in the country.
This is Sugg’s first All-American honors, although she’s received plenty of recognition over all three of her collegiate seasons.

She can add the All-American honor to this list of awards:
- 2016 WCC Freshman of the Year
- 2016 WCC 2nd Team All-Conference
- 2017 WCC 2nd Team All-Conference
- 2017 NFCA 1st Team All-Pacific Region
- 2018 WCC All-Academic Team
- 2018 WCC 1st Team All-Conference
- 2018 NFCA 2nd Team All-Conference
- Seven WCC Player of the Week Awards
Sugg earned the honors by leading the Cougars to their tenth consecutive conference championship. Her .423 batting average, 63 hits, 64 RBI, 13 doubles, and 11 home runs all led BYU.
The Cougars finished the season with a 36-22 record. After a shaky start to the season, BYU turned it on in conference play, winning 18 out of their last 20 regular-season games, including ten in a row.
BYU earned their 14th consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament, getting a tough draw in the Oregon Regional. The Ducks were the No. 1 seed in the tournament, but the Cougars never got the chance to face them. BYU lost the first game against No. 29 Drake 3-2, and after a 16-0 blowout against Albany the Cougars saw their season come to a close with a 3-0 loss in a rematch with Drake.
Sugg will look to extend the Cougars’ conference title streak in 2019 as a senior. BYU loses five players to graduation, all who played a key role in this year’s WCC championship.
But the cupboard isn’t bare by any means, and having an All-American leading the way certainly doesn’t hurt.
