Darkhorse Candidates

6. Jaren Hall

Jaren Hall joins Stacy Connor, Baylor Romney and Zach Wilson as freshmen quarterbacks this year. Hall could make an impact in the future, especially if he has the same work ethic as his brother KJ . He recently returned home from his mission and did not go through spring practice. He likely won’t be quite ready this season to get playing time, so he’ll likely redshirt. His athleticism could translate to a possible position change, since he’s in the same class as so many other quarterbacks.

5. Baylor Romney

Baylor Romney seems like the kind of player that could be a darkhorse for BYU. If the Cougars decide to invest in the future then Romney could possibly be thrown into the mix. In high school he threw for over 3,000 yards his senior season and completed 70% of his passes.

I personally believe that Kalani Sitake and Jeff Grimes are looking toward the future, meaning that Beau Hoge and Tanner Mangum may not get the nod. Joe Critchlow could be on a short leash, which would put Baylor Romney right behind Zach Wilson as the number two guy.
