8. John Fairchild

With the 19th pick in the 1965 draft, the Los Angeles Lakers selected power forward John Fairchild. In his time at BYU, Fairchild earned First Team All-WAC honors twice, and Third Team All-American honors as a senior.

After his rookie season with the Lakers, he moved over to the ABA for the remainder of his career. He played for four different ABA teams, spanning from 1966-70. Those stops included the Anaheim Amigos, Denver Rockets, Indiana Pacers, and Kentucky Colonels.

His best season came with the Amigos in 1967-68. He averaged 10.9 points and 5.4 rebounds in just over 20 minutes per game.

His overall career numbers weren’t quite as impressive. He finished his career with an average of 6.6 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.

As a junior college transfer, Fairchild only played two years at BYU. As a junior he averaged 20.3 points and 13.2 rebounds per game. He upped that scoring to 21.5 points per game as a senior.
